Follow-Up From Today's Off-Campus Incident

On May 15, 2026, at approximately 2:36 p.m., the University of Maryland Police Department responded to Lakeland Road and Rhode Island Avenue to assist the Prince George’s County Police Department for the sound of gunfire. Once officers were on scene, information was gathered from a witness that verified the incident. UMD COMMUNITY ALERT: Off Campus Sound of Gunfire

Police are on scene at Lakeland Rd and Rhode Island Ave for the sound of gunfire. Witness reported that a suspect in a dark color sedan fired 3 shots in the air and then left the scene. The last know direction of travel for the suspect vehicle was east on Campus Drive, heading towards Kenilworth Avenue, away from campus. More information to follow when it becomes available.
